Screw vs. Pin Construction

In a previous post, we touched on the difference between pin and screw construction, but I want to elaborate on the differences between the two of them.

The type of construction in balisongs is simply how the blade is connected to the handles. There are two types of construction: pin and screw. It’s easy enough to understand, but which construction is better?

It’s a valid question, but it totally depends on what you’re looking for and what your price range is. If you’re a beginner and you’re looking to get into flipping for the first time, or if you haven’t been flipping for very long, pins are a great way to go. This suggestion is based on the assumption that the first balisong you buy isn’t going to be the most expensive one out there. More affordable, budget butterfly knives that have screw construction are a lot more likely to have screws fall out than the pins on budget butterfly knives are.

However, if you’re looking to spend a lot and get the best balisong out there, you probably want to consider a balisong with screw construction. Screws are typically (not always, but typically) a lot smoother to flip than pin construction. Another benefit to screw construction is that you can loosen and tighten them the screws. With pin construction, the pins are permanent, so you can’t adjust the tightness to your liking.
